omg, where does the time go?!!

seriously?! the month of april is almost done, can you believe it? it's not like i've accomplished all that much, no ground breaking self discovery, no life changing events, but, now that i think about it i have had a great month socially and actually there has been several life changing events. nothing juicy or scandalous... just life i guess. i found out how much i currently weigh and, NO IT DOES NOT BEGIN WITH A 2 !!! i also have cut the following out of my life, as much as is possible anyway; caffeine and spicy foods. i have COMPLETELY cut the following out of my life; alcohol. now, i know what you are thinking... "if only i had a nickel for everytime tom said that" well let me tell you, go cash in your piggy banks because i will not drink again, ever! unless it's a special occasion or i'm on holiday somewhere. i allow myself to have one soda per day that has caffeine in order to keep the headaches at bay. my complexion, which prompted this whole thing is already starting to look better and, as a celebration i went to sephora on union street and dropped $180 on dr. brandt products... haven't really used any of it yet, i've grown a little 5 day scruff which will be coming off after this blog entry is written.

i've been thinking a lot about moving lately, to monterey or san luis obispo or someplace else on californias central coast, i've also been thinking about buying a vw westfalia camper bus... and living in it. crazy, i know, but, the thought of living cheaply and simply, moving around just sounds so awesome right now! i'm really tired of all the gloom and doom stuff we hear about and i don't even watch the news! well, whatever, for now it's just a thought and please, keep all your "hippie!" comments to yourself, ok?

i will have to downsize soon, i can't really justify what i pay for rent anymore, living check to check just isn't for me so i will have to find a place with a room-mate or room-mates. i think i'll be able to handle it. and maybe it'll be good having another person around? who knows?

i started a new book today; "long way down" by ewan macgregor and charlie boorman, it's from the dvd series of the same name, just with a much more personal feel.

last weekend...

OK, so last weekend was truly an amazing weekend. my saturday was fairly typical, worked until five, came home, chilled out for a bit then got ready and headed over to the DNA Lounge for a little New Wave City action. I danced, I dranked and had a killer time admittedly i dranked (<--- i think i may have invented that word, correct me if i'm wrong, but, if i'm right, you saw it here first... remember that!) a little too much so, the next morning i slept in a little bit and popped a few advil with a diet monster chaser. i got ready went downstairs and my "brah" dave rolled up on his vespa. i hopped on mine and we rode to san francisco's legendary "Lucky Penny".

I've been living in s.f. for about three and a half years, i've gone past this place probably a bazillion times and each time i've said to myself, "tom, you really need to go there", finally i listened to myself and went. it is AWESOME! killer food, 70's/80's time warp decor and good prices. if you live in sf, or, just happen to wake up in sf after a 3 day bender you HAVE to eat here. Geary & Masonic streets.

In my typical "diet starts monday" mindset i went big and ordered a personal favorite of mine; chicken fried steak, which, even today, the name still boggles me a bit... 'cause... you know... it's not chicken. anyway, hash browns? bomb! eggs? bomb! toast and smuckers? bomb! after filling up on some cholesterol and trans fats we were off!!!

to the races!!! just east of s.f. is "golden gate fields". i bet on some ponies, picked a few nags but, when i finally picked a winner... woohoo! $11 baybee!!! to celebrate i stood in line at the snack bar for about two days for some nachos. never mind the fact that, by the time i got served, they were out of chili AND jalapenos. i know! dave, who stood in front of me in line got the last of the jalapenos which he shared with me, thanks dave! after we left the track we stopped in at an undisclosed location in corte madera for some illegal ping pong. illegal ping pong you ask? yes, illegal ping pong. we snuck into a hotels recreation area and i played probably some of the best pong of my life. the combination of playing on a regulation STIGA table, breaking the law to do it made for an amazing all natural high, plus, my skills are getting to the point were my spin shots are defying all laws and rules of physics, nature and science, i'm like... the david beckham of the ping pong world.

so that was sunday. my other day off, monday, i was doing some chores, dishes, laundry and i finally went and got my haircut at my barbers on geary & 20th. i got my usual DC (daniel craig) cut. it's an old time barber shop, with penthouses, playboys, gq, details and esquire. the last time i was in they had a playboy with a pictorial, aka a spread, on brenda walsh from 90210, shannon doherty, who, is kinda hot in a batshit crazy kinda way but, she looks like a smoker, and that's a big turn off for me, but, I digress, so i get my haircut, walk home, pick up the phone and text dave; "treasure island... scooters" within seconds i got a reply; "F**K YEAH!!!!! BE RIGHT THERE" next thing i know we're cutting through downtown heading towards the bay bridge. treasure island is a former military base, it's now somewhat "affordable" housing built on toxic landfill but it has some amazing views of sf.

after running all over treasure island we head back to the city and head to north beach or little italy as the tourists like to call it. there is an amazing italian deli there called mollinaris, probably mis-spelled, BEST $10 sandwich EVER! we went to the park and chilled, ate our sandwiches and talked about life. how we spend so much time, sitting on facebook or myspace, reading about our virtual friends and reading what they had for breakfast (grits), what they're craving (cake) seriously?!! Do we need to know you're doing laundry? What your five fave '80s tunes are? What score you got on a simpsons trivia quiz? anyway, what i realised was, that for me personally, i would rather be friends with you, in "real" life, not a virtual online life, i want to meet with people and go to the park, museum, art gallery, beach even just window shopping, to keep the art of human one on one face to face communication alive. so, i think i may have to ditch out on myspace and facebook. i have to. look at what happened when i stepped away from the laptop and left the cell phone at home; the best weekend in ages!!!
